It’s a chance to pause and take inventory of where I’ve been, and assess where I am going.
I am really excited about this new year, and I want to be sure that I make the most of it.
To do that I have to focus.
This lead me to realize that I should pick a “word of the year” to mediate on. Have you done this before? If not you may be wondering what this is all about.
Basically you pick one word that you will think about or study every day. You might read scriptures about that word, do a devotional on it, or just pray about it.
Typically you select a word that encapsulates an action, attitude, or spiritual discipline that you want to develop or improve in your life. Some popular words include:
Patience • Discipline • Courage • Faith • Hope
Strength • Endurance • Awareness • Engagement
Purpose • Passion • Determination • Commitment • Joy
Honestly, I feel like I need to meditate on all of these! But that would be overwhelming. 😉
The process of picking a word can be overwhelming too. There are so many choices you sometimes don’t even know where to start.
So I like to come at it from a different angle.
To help me pick my word, I decided to set my goals for the year first.
Did you see my post on goal setting? It includes printables to help you on your road to success.
For myself, I wrote goals related to my relationship with God, my daughter, even you sweet blog friend!
I wrote goals about my business dreams, my finances, even hobbies.
Once I had my goals written out, I was able to objectively look at them. To see not only where I wanted to go, but to see how they fit together.
To form a plan of action to help me achieve them.
And it was in this that I realized what my word for the year needed to be.
As excited as I am about my goals, I realized that I am going to have trouble sticking on the path to achieving them unless I am focused and intentional.
That’s when it hit me, “Intentional” would be a perfect word for me to mediate on this year.
It’s rich with the characteristics required to succeed!
Elements that will serve me well as I strive daily to grow into the woman I am meant to be.
Like all goals, it is important to post them where you can see them daily. So I created a printable!
I’ve listed my word of the year, added a definition, and a reminder of how the word relates to my mission.
Do you want to be more intentional this year too?
In case you would like to join me in this quest, I have created a printable for us both to be inspired.
