It's blog conference season! And today I'm sharing Tips for Getting Ready for a Blog Conference.
No matter if you are a novice or a seasoned blogger, we all have new things to learn especially since technology is always evolving! To help you get the most out of your conference experience I've created a couple of easy projects and printables to help you. First, I want to show you How to Personalize Document Folders with Cricut Vinyl and second, I'm sharing some Free Blog Conference Planning Printables.
Earlier this month I went to a blogging retreat in North Carolina and next week I'm heading to Atlanta for one of my favorite blog conferences – Haven!
Benefits of Attending a Blog Conference
I've been attending Haven for several years now and it really is one of my favorite blogging conferences. The sessions are a wonderful blend of business training plus lots of fun DIY home improvement classes to help you learn or brush up on all of the needed skills to be a successful DIY blogger.
Networking and education go hand in hand at this event.
There are wonderful brands that attend and this is an incredible opportunity to begin developing a relationship with them. For example, the main sponsor of the conference is Home Depot – I've had the privilege of doing some amazing projects with them including this Apple Cider Bar! This collaboration wouldn't have happened if I hadn't attended.
Not only are brand partnership opportunities like this an important element, but so are the new friendships that can grow. I've developed friendships with so many amazing women through this particular conference including Amy Howard, Yvonne Pratt (Stone Gable blog), Karianne Wood (Thistlewood Farms) and so many more!
And of course, the education you gain through the sessions – learning photography skills, YouTube techniques, SEO tips, Pinterest strategies, and oh so much more – make this conference a winner.
Tips for Getting Ready for a Blog Conference
But like many things in life, you get out what you put in — and this is especially true at conferences. So, I don't recommend winging it.
After all, events like this are an investment, and I want to see you get the most out of yours.
To help you maximize your time and money, here are some easy projects to help you get ready.
How to Stay Organized at a Conference
One thing is for sure, you're going to collect a lot of stuff. The sponsors at events like this are quite generous and most of the samples you receive can happily live in the adorable tote bag that you'll receive at check-in.
But you're also going to be gathering lots of business cards, handouts, and other important papers that you definitely don't want to lose track of – and dropping it in a goody bag is a good way to lose track of something fast – take it from someone who's been there done that! 😉
Having a special spot to put V-I-Ps (Very Important Papers) can be a great way to help you save time when it comes to post-conference implementation and follow-up.
The riches are in the niches. The fortune is in the follow-up. – Pat Flynn

Corral Your Papers in Style!
Document holders like these 3 pastel colored File Organizers from Target are a terrific way to corral the paper you will collect! But wouldn't they be even cuter with personalized gold glitter decals?! I think so!!
I made some to take with me and I thought you might like to make a set of your own as well. So, let me show you How to Personalize Document Folders with Cricut Vinyl!
- Document folders – I'm using these pretty pastel ones from Target
- Cricut Vinyl (or vinyl of your choice) – I'm using Gold Glitter Vinyl
- FREE SVG Phrases to use in Design Space – available to subscribers in my Free Craft Library
- Cricut Paper Cutting Machine
- Standard Grip Mat and Standard Blade

How to Personalize Document Folders with Cricut Vinyl
1 – Download the FREE Phrases SVG Pattern from the Free Resource Library on my blog here.
2 – Upload the design into Cricut Design Space.
The phrases that I've included are:
In Design Space you can easily make your own phrases too! But these are all ready for you to cut!
3 – Press Make it and adjust your settings as needed. Here's what I used:
4 – Once your machine cuts out your design, you will weed it and then I recommend using transfer tape to make applying it to the envelope super simple.
Then simply peel off the transfer tape and you have adorable DIY Personalized Document Folders!
Now, you can categorize and organize all of the important papers you gather and make that oh-so-critical follow-up much easier!

Printables to Help You Prepare Like a Boss for a Blog Conference
But staying organized is only half the battle.
Taking a few minutes to FOCUS so that you can be INTENTIONAL at the event is a pro-move and one that can have a critical impact on the success of your blog conference experience.
We all lead busy lives and if you are hyper-creative like I am it can sometimes be a little challenging to get a gameplan together for a conference – or you may even wonder if you need one.
But trust me, I've been blogging for over eleven years, and I can tell you that getting laser-focused on the business side of things is how I started to see returns that got me excited!
And I want that for you. So I created three printables that I hope will be really valuable for you.
There are three worksheets: Planning Maven, Session Maven, and Follow-Up Maven.
How to use these Blog Conference Printables
The Planning Maven worksheet is designed to help you set some general goals for the entire conference and helps you get your mind prepared to represent your brand like a pro. There's a spot for refining your elevator pitch, listing things you hope to gain, make note of sessions that you don't want to miss and think about the bloggers and brands you want to connect with.
Next, there is the Session Maven worksheet. As the name suggests, this is geared to help you get all the gold nuggets you can out of every session you attend. The top half is meant for you to complete in advance. The bottom half is for you to use during the session.
Finally, there is the Follow-up Maven worksheet. And this is where the hobbyists are separated from the pros. A pro knows that follow-up is the golden ticket to pushing through and making your dreams happen. This sheet helps you prioritize your post-conference action steps: who you need to contact, set a schedule for when you'll be doing this follow-up work, plus space to reflect on what you learned and what you want to work on first.
Best of all, these printables are FREE! Yep, you can download all three of these when you join my email newsletter. Neat, right?!
