Rice Krispie cereal
Orange & Yellow Food Coloring
I followed the recipe on the box for mine: 6 cups cereal, 1 bag of marshmallows, and 3 Tablespoons of butter for EACH batch. I made three separate batches, one for the plain (white section), one for the yellow section, and one for the orange section. In total, I used 1 and 1/2 boxes of cereal, 3 bags of marshmallows, and 1 plus a little bit of another stick of butter for all three batches.
I made the yellow section first, but you can do this in any order.
First, get your pans ready.
I used three big disposable pans from the dollar store. This was handy for transporting them to my daughter’s school later too. I recommend lightly spraying them with cooking oil to make turning them out easier.
Next, melt your marshmallows in a big pot. Once they are melted, add your food coloring.
Spread the cereal into your prepared pan. Press the cereal down into the pan. This is sticky business. You can lightly spray your hand with cooking spray but BE CAREFUL to not use too much. You’re going to need that sticky-ness when you stack your colors 🙂
And now, let the magic begin!
These were a HUGE hit at my daughter’s school with both the kiddo’s and the adults!
I was surprised how simple they were to make and now we’re thinking of fun ways to do these for other holidays too! I definitely think some red & green “Christmas tree” Rice Krispie treats are in our future!
