Modern Farmhouse Tray Styling Blog Hop, Tips for How to Style a Fall Tray!Have you started adding touches of Fall decor around your home yet? Today, let's chat about some Easy Tips for How to Style a Farmhouse Tray.

Decorating a tray is such a fun and simple way to bring a touch of Fall to your home. One reason I like to style a tray is because it is portable. You can set it up and use it on a dining table, a coffee table, a bookcase, a buffet – there are so many options! Mobile decor at it's best, you can move it to precisely wherever you want it throughout the season.

Modern Farmhouse Tray Styling Blog Hop, Tips for How to Style a Fall Tray!I shopped around my home for the elements for my tray. Of course you know I love all things blue and white and when mixed with orange it is so fresh for Fall.

Here are the supplies I used to Style a Fall Farmhouse Tray:

A wooden tray
A few faux pumpkins
Various bits of blue & white china
Acorns
One fall colored napkin – mine is a Ralph Lauren fabric
One blue & white buffalo check napkin – I made mine from a Waverly fabric found at Wal-Mart
Old books
A fall plant

#1 – Include a variety of heights!

Varying the height of the items that you are featuring on your tray will make it look more interesting. There are many ways that you can add height and thereby interest to your display.

Here I've stacked several plates to create as a base for a petite pedestal which I topped with a delicate bowl that is filled with acorns and topped with a tiny pumpkin.

I like to look for ways to add texture to vignettes to make them more intersting. Here I've placed a petite chicken wire cage (I found this back at Easter at Michaels Craft Store). It has a “bed” of raffia and makes a lovey nest for another small pumpkin.

Both the cage and the raffia add nice texture to the scene.

Sometimes it's nice to have everything equally balanced but other times it can be just as nice to allow a little freedom in your design. Here the napkins are placed on the left hand side which could throw everything off but the strong color of the pumpkins elevated on the right hand side, as well as the pair of Cooper mugs add a nice counter balance helping everything to not feel too lopsided.

Decor for the sake of decor is certainly perfectly acceptable but there are many times that I also like to make my decor interactive. I don't always want it to just lie around.

Within this tray there is some working room. The plates are ready to hold a delectable fall treat like these White Chocolate Pumpkin Praline Bars or these Apple Cider Whoopie Pies!

And there is space for some yummy homemade apple cider – I'm planning to share my recipe next week so please check back!
