Cricut Infusible Ink on a Cricut T-shirt

Are you ready for another fun and easy Cricut Infusible Ink project? Today I'm going to show you How to Use Cricut Infusible Ink on a Cricut T-shirt. This is an Easy Cricut Project that is perfect for Back-to-School!

It's hard to believe that the summer is almost over and the kiddos are going back to school soon, but alas, it's true.

This t-shirt project is an adorable way to help your daughter get excited about that first day of school in a new grade!

This spring I made a “last day of 2nd grade” t-shirt for my daughter. Have you ever made a last day of school t-shirt for your little ones?

The idea was that her teachers and classmates could sign it but she liked it so much she didn't want anyone to sign it – so we had them sign her yearbook instead. šŸ™ƒ

That t-shirt was such a hit she and I decided to make a first day of third-grade t-shirt for this year!

I think we've started a new tradition… which makes me extra happy to plant seeds of joy that my daughter will look back on years later, and maybe even continue with her kids one day!

I thought you might like to make one too, so let me show you how!

The SVG & PDF pattern to make this easy “This is going to be Magical” t-shirt is available for free to subscribers of my email newsletter. When you subscribe to my weekly newsletter you also get access to my Free Craft Library which has this pattern and many, many other wonderful projects for you to create.

How to Make a T-shirt with Infusible Ink

In the video, I share step-by-step instructions, but in case the written directions might help, I'm including them below too.

How to Setup your SVG Design in Cricut Design Space

  1. Download the FREE ā€œThis is going to be Magicalā€ SVG or PDF Pattern from the Free Craft Library on my blog here.

  2. Upload the design into Cricut Design Space.

  3. Make sure the design is sized how you prefer. I ended up making mine 8ā€ wide to best fit the Youth sized Small t-shirt blank I was using.

  4. Press ā€œMake itā€ in the top right-hand corner.

  5. Press ā€œMirrorā€ this is VERY IMPORTANT! This will flip your design so that it will appear the correct way on our finished bag.

  6. Press continue.

  7. Connect to your machine.

  8. Select Infusible Ink for your material.

  9. I like ā€œmoreā€ for the pressure setting.

  10. Make sure your blade is very sharp.

  11. Place your infusible ink transfer sheet onto your Standard Grip mat. I recommend using a brayer to ensure that the Infusible ink transfer sheet is secure on the mat. The less you touch this sheet the better since you don’t want to accidentally transfer any oils from your hands onto the paper (make sure your hands are clean before you begin)

  12. Cut out the design with your machine and weed away the transfer paper that you don’t need to reveal your design. Set this aside.

  13. Let’s prep the t-shirt: run your lint roller over the front of the t-shirt to remove any lint or anything that would interfere with the ink fusing to the shirt.

  14. Lay your EasyPress Mat on your work surface.

  15. Place a piece of white 80lb cardstock INSIDE your t-shirt. This is to help block any possible ink from leaking through.

How to Use Your Cricut EasyPress2 with Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets

  16. Make sure your EasyPress is large enough to cover your entire design all at once.

  17. Determine your heat setting using the handy chart found here: https://celebratingeverydaylife.com/easypress

  18. Preheat your EasyPress 2 to 385° (or as directed on the EasyPress heat chart)

  19. Once it’s warmed up, we need to preheat the shirt. To do this you need to lay the piece of butcher paper on top of the shirt and press for 15 seconds.

  20. Remove the press and butcher paper from the shirt.

  21. Place the design onto the shirt. Make sure that the design is thoroughly weeded because anything on there is going to meld with the shirt. Make sure the design is “right-side” down and the shiny liner paper is up.

  22. Cover your design with butcher paper. Tip: make sure the butcher paper is larger than your design.

  23. Press with light pressure (one hand) for the appropriate amount of time – my setting said 40 seconds for my EasyPress 2.

  24. When done, lift straight up. Be careful to not slide the press.

  25. Allow the shirt to cool as directed BEFORE peeling off. Read the heat setting directions carefully for your project to make sure you follow it completely.

  26. Once cool, slowly remove the pattern liner. If any pieces of the design sheet are still on your shirt carefully remove it.

  27. Voila! You have a beautiful custom t-shirt ready to make that first day back-to-school extra amazing!
