Marion, one of my sweet friends – she’s the one who is always baking the amazing cakes I feature at my daughter’s birthday parties, plus she made the gingerbread houses I featured on the cover of the November/December 2013 issue of my magazine – is about to move to another state which of course makes me really sad. She also works at my mom’s salon and the gals there asked if I could make a special card to invite her to a Bon Voyage Party they had planned for her. I was of course delighted to create something for her and knew I wanted it to feel even more special than just a card, I wanted it to feel like a gift. So, I put my thinking cap on and stood in front of my craft closet. Now that it’s all finished, it kind-of reminds me of a mixed-media art piece… here’s how I created it:
I have a stash of invitation boxes from my stationery design days and knew they would be the perfect presentation for this card. I added a wide silk ribbon (a few glue dots help to keep it in place) around the top of the box and then attached an assortment of fabric flowers, pearl embellishments and even an enameled brooch (all from Michael’s Craft Store) to the cover for a flourish!
I did some looking around on-line and found these lyrics by Tom Petty that I thought were a perfect sentiment for this occasion.
“You and I will meet again
When we’re least expecting it
One day in some far off place
I will recognize your face
I won’t say good-bye my friend
For you and I will meet again”
I added a floral border I found on Creative Market to the quote which was perfect with my color scheme.
And that’s it! A super sweet card for an incredibly sweet friend. I hope it offers you a bit of inspiration if you have a similar project you need to complete.
