Ah, June. I remember when I was younger, I ached for this month that signaled the end of the school year and ushered in those hazy, lazy days of summer. No more homework, no more waking up early and rushing around. I could simply get up and meander through the woods and fields near my home, go swimming, bike to a friends house, whatever I desired. Fast forward twenty plus years… These days, the arrival of this month means a little something different – now my daughter is the one out of school and I have to be on my toes! To ensure that we grown-ups get a little fun out of this first month of summer, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite summer posts to inspire your planning this month:
1 – Whether you are poolside or curbside, try to dine outdoors this month! This post gives you lots of inspiration and there are even more details of this fabulous party in the July/August 2014 edition of my magazine which you can purchase here.
2 – Chill out with this frozen Strawberry Lemonade! It is cool and refreshing and the taste takes me back to the summer’s of my youth!
3 + 4 – Nosh on some savory starters like these delicious cheeses here or fire up the grill for these shrimp on rosemary skewers (which are delicious on there own, over a salad or folded into a wrap). Simple and speedy! Trust me, you’ll thank me later!!
5 – Need to freshen up your yard a bit? Check out my tips for installing a pea gravel path. A year later I’m still loving mine!
6 – Throw a festive party – just because! While this party had a fun fiesta theme, do we really need an excuse? Why not “the weather is gorgeous and we want to enjoy it” – that sounds like a great reason to me! There a few photos here and lots more eye-candy in the May/June 2013 edition of my magazine.
7 – Finally, remember to take a moment everyday to find your inspiration. These days aren’t as lazy as they used to be, and we all need to remember to make the most of them. For me that most often includes needing an attitude check as I find myself having way more on my to-do list than I could ever possibly complete. By reminding myself to have a good attitude (no matter what direction my day takes) helps me out a lot. I’m by no means an expert at this, but I continue to strive for more peace.
And there you have it, a fun and festive list to inspire your maybe not-so-lazy days of summer. But hey, let’s make the most of what we’ve got!
