I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday my American friends! Mine was lovely – family time and good food – a perfect combo. We got our Christmas tree on Friday after Thanksgiving, but it had been bundled up and needed some time to relax the branches which has put me a little behind schedule with the decorating (but it has also given me more time to dream up some of the ornaments I’m adding this year – so I guess it has worked out well). One of the new ornaments styles that I’m making for the tree are these glitter monogram ornaments on plaid fabric – I love this Plaid Monogram Ornament! It’s simple, takes only a few minutes and a few supplies, but has a big impact on the tree – yay! Here’s what you need to make your own:
Gold paint (I used Rust-oleum metallic spray paint)
Plaid fabric or ribbon (here’s a similar ribbon to the one I used – affiliate link – 6″ Wide Red Plaid)
Wire ribbon or hooks
Hot glue gun
Steps to make your own:
Paint your letters with gold paint. This way, if the glitter doesn’t cover every inch, your ornaments won’t look unfinished.
Let paint dry a tiny bit but while paint is still “tacky” (but not soaking wet) sprinkle on glitter. Be sure to sprinkle the glitter over a tray or paper where you can save the glitter that doesn’t stick. Allow the glitter to dry completely.
Place fabric in embroidery hoop and glue letter onto fabric. Add a hook or wire ribbon to the top for hanging. Step back and enjoy!
I’m making these in a few different shapes and sizes for extra interest on the tree. Embroidery hoops have been very handy in my Christmas decorating so far – remember them here on my White Christmas tree?
I got to go to the Homestead Resort over the holiday and am hoping to share some photos with you – it’s such a beautiful place especially at Christmas time – fingers crossed that plan comes together. Stay tuned! ‘Til then, I hope you like this easy Christmas ornament DIY.
