Happy 12-12-12! I think it’s so fun that the dates are all the same. I’m silly, I know! 🙂 Today, I’m working on my holiday table but I’m taking my time with it. For me, creating my Christmas centerpiece is often the trickiest bit so I’ve decided to focus on that first and then play with dishes, linens, flatware and the rest… So today I bring you my Christmas Centerpiece – part one! The main elements are these giant pinecones and antlers (both a Luckett’s find). The main pinecones are gorgeously oversized so they make a bold statement when embellished with the evergreens. For a little bit of fill I’ve added in dozens of “regular” pinecones which look positively mini next to these super-sized cones!
This silvery gold Santa is from Target (I described Target as my “happy” place to my mom earlier today… seriously, I delight in merely roaming the aisles with my Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha and keeping up with what’s new and what’s on sale!) When I saw this little guy I wasn’t exactly sure how I’d use him but I knew I would. Since he’s now become the centerpiece of my centerpiece I’m glad I paid attention to that particular impulse when shopping 🙂 A simple satin bow is all he needed.
Amidst the pinecones I’ve tucked this trio of mini cloches (a Decor Steal item from way back). I like how they capture a tiny scene – I should add a bit of fake snow to really give it that “snow globe” feel! This one is filled with a mini pinecone, a couple of jingle bells and a tiny woodland santa (I think he might be a Target santa too but I’m not 100% sure…) There’s also a bit of sparkly tinsel wound about the bottom.
In the foreground you also catch a glimpse of some pinecones of the glittery variety as well as a vintage ostrich cardboard ornament. These have been in my family for more years than I can count and I adore them! My mom kindly gave them to me this year and I have them sprinkled about my kitchen and this centerpiece simply because they make me smile!
In this cloche I have tucked the elephant from my ornament collection. It’s such a whimsical array of animals – I think the fantasy of it is part of why these have held my attention for so many years! I’m sorry for the glare on the glass… I know it’s hard to see just how sweet they are. (Note to self: control lighting better with photos!; There, hopefully that will help me do better next time!)
Above it all is this tiny, glittery stag – since I have a woodland theme going on this seemed like a nice perch for him. I think he’s also from Target (do you see a pattern emerging here?). There’s another paper ornament in this cloche too, this one is the lion. Seriously, sorry I didn’t take better shots of these (I can’t help but wonder what I was thinking when I was taking these photos… oh wait, my 2 year old was running around wildly at my feet shouting “Choo-choo” so I probably wasn’t thinking!)
Here’s a quick side view – I love the twinkle of the tree lights in the background here! By the way, I arranged all of this on a large platter to make it easy to move when I need to.
I also like to dress up my chairs! I know, I know, some of you are thinking I’m just plum c-r-a-z-y… but I’m ok with that! I often joke with friends, “if you come to my house don’t stand still too long, I might decorate you!“. To tie in with my other decorations I’ve strung my glitter garland on my chairs too – some say “Believe” and others “Wish”. Two sentiments that I think capture the essence of the season perfectly.
I’ll be sharing part two soon – not sure if it will make it this week or not. I have so many Christmas ideas to share I need a whole extra month to do it! But I’ll fit it in somewhere!! So please stay tuned…
In the meantime, did you know there are 12 days ’til Christmas? Yippiee!!! Let the chorus begin: “On the first day of Christmas…”
