This Friday evening I will be boarding a plane headed for a place I have dreamt of since I was a young girl… Derbyshire, England. Home to breathtaking landscapes, charming villages and glorious manor homes. I am especially thrilled to be visiting one stately home in particular: Chatsworth House (shown above), this home is believed to be Jane Austen’s inspiration for the much beloved Pemberley estate in Pride & Prejudice and was used as the location for it in the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley & Matthew Macfadyen.
What prompted this trip you may ask? Well, I will be turning 40 on Monday and wanted to do something special to celebrate this birthday milestone – as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I had to make some big changes in my life in order to fully pursue my dreams and there have definitely been sacrifices and some difficult days as a result – worthwhile, but difficult none the less. So, I thought doing something special like going to a part of England that I have admired and daydreamed about for most of my life would be a phenomenal way to celebrate. So I began praying, and the doors began to open. As it has turned out, not only do I have a free ticket to go – an amazing blessing all on it’s own – but I am also being given special press access to beautiful homes like Chatsworth House & Haddon Hall (2nd photo above) so that I can photograph it for my magazine and share this journey with YOU too!
When I first began to dream about having a real-live magazine, I dreamt that it would not only be filled with inspiring projects and recipes but that it would also include travel-diary types of stories to enchanted corners of the world. This felt like a very big, very “long-way-off” type of dream but I still added it to my wish list. So it is amazing to me that these doors are already opening! The May/June issue featured a Mother-Daughter trip to Ireland and now the next issue will feature this dream trip to England too! WOW, WOW, WOW!
I truly can’t wait to discover all the treasures of Derbyshire and share it with you! I’ve rented a lovely cottage and plan to explore, wander and just enjoy the days as much as possible so I’m not sure that I’ll be posting much while I’m there. Hopefully, I’ll be posting regularly – but I just like to prepare you, in case! 🙂
So, what has this taught me? That God does hear our prayers and dreams really do come true! SO, I hope you feel encouraged to keep dreaming too! It can take a long time sometimes, but “not now” doesn’t mean “not ever” – I hope you will stay determined and stay encouraged!!
Do you have any tips for me about that part of England? I’d love to hear them!!
