I love watching DVD’s but I don’t enjoy looking at them on my bookshelf in my living room. Unfortunately the entertainment center that I have my TV sitting in doesn’t hold them so I’ve had to store them on the bookshelf next to it. I tried a few different ways to “disguise” the DVD boxes but nothing seemed quite right until this! Now, I can easily access my DVDs and display my majolica planter collection!
So, here’s what I did…
First, measure your bookshelf area and cut a piece of cardboard however wide x tall you need. Note: I subtracted two inches from the width for my final measurement – this makes it easier to flip the cardboard up and down on the shelf for easy DVD access… I didn’t have a single piece of cardboard quite wide enough so I had to cut a few smaller pieces and add them on…. this didn’t bother me since I knew I’d be covering the cardboard with paintable wallpaper.
Next, trim a piece of paintable wallpaper to the size of the cardboard and attach to cardboard. I used craft glue (Elmer’s works great) for this. Allow it to dry.
Here’s a peek at some of the treasures I have displayed on top:
These books have wandered around my house but I’m really liking them here so I’m thinking this is their new home. They make a sweet “pedestal” for another piece of majolica – this one holding an impromptu nest of speckled quail eggs.
