Welcome back for our tour of Holiday Decor Ideas & Trends from the Old Lucketts Store in Lucketts, Virginia! I was excited to see the signature painted front doors as we approached the store from the highway. They always put a smile on my face. I was delightfully surprised to see a familiar and friendly face at Lucketts: my friend Matt the creative genius behind Carpe Donut! I’ve had the delicious pleasure of working with Matt on several weddings and the sight (and smell) of his glorious donuts and hot cider were the perfect cap to our holiday shopping! His apple cider donuts really are the best I’ve EVER had! My friend Dara also swears that the Italian style Hot Chocolate is simply divine. Being allergic to chocolate myself, I will take her word for it 🙂
These salvage-chic buildings (honestly I’m not sure what else to call them) were a little sparser than I’ve seen them before but this only allowed me to drool that much more over their fantastic construction. I love the walls of mis-matched windows! My friend and I are plotting how we can build one on her property – I really, really want this as a “playhouse”! Imagine all the great parties I could design in one!
I thought this rusted arrow was so cool! Sadly, it was out of my price range… but I snapped a pic to remember it by. Lots of fun birdhouses… These sleighs kinda became my ‘white whale’ that day. I really wanted to find one but everyone I saw was around $40 or up (sometimes way up)…. which was just a bit more than I had budgeted, so I drug my poor friend all over hunting for one. Surprisingly I came home the next day and went to a sale that the Girlfriends of Greenwood (a group of fabulous vintage, thrifting, antiquing, crafting – generally awesome – ladies) were having and found one just in my price range – hooray! This oversized tin plaque inspired me for a project I want to create here at home… I won’t say anything more for the moment… hopefully the suspense won’t be too much for you 🙂
Antlers were HUGE this year. They were everywhere! Hanging from the ceiling, sitting in pots, as lightfixtures, candelabras, and more…. almost every room had some. For a long time I have been wanting to introduce some antler-esque decor into my home but I hadn’t found the right pieces. Well, the wait is over because I found some totally fab pieces this weekend. Best of all? My scores are all faux – which just sits a little bit better with me for whatever reason…. blame it on Disney and Bambi I guess… I’m totally cool with folks having real antlers – after all I’ve been longing for some of my own – so I’m hoping I’m not offending anyone! My antler finds will be featured in some upcoming projects very soon so please stay tuned to see them!
You know how I love all things sparkly, right? Well, I think I audibly gasped when I came around a corner and saw this glorious display of angel wings! I recently got a teeny-tiny pair of them to hang in my daughter’s room so they’ve been on my mind lately. I’m a total sucker for angel wings so I loved this! Hanging right by the wings was this very cool clear glass bottle chandelier. Very industrial and cottagey at the same time. We loved it! There were lots of woodland animals, pinecones & acorns both glittered and natural that seemed to be frolicking all over the store. I loved these ruffled paper garlands and medallions… I’m debating if I want to stitch some of these up for my garlands this year…. haven’t decided yet but I sure love the look! If you would like to make your own paper medallions be sure to check out my video tutorial.
