On a trip to Michael’s craft store earlier this season I found these Martha Stewart Crafts Jack o’Lantern Decorative Boxes and couldn’t help but think of how cute they would be glittered! So here’s my easy ‘How to Glitter Pumpkin Treat Boxes‘ tutorial. One side has a very sweet Jack-o-lantern face while the other is a perfect pumpkin.
Since I had the spray paint out for my How to Spray Paint a Plastic Charger post, I thought it would be a nice surprise to paint the inside a rich turquoise – one of my favorite colors!
:: SUPPLIES ::
Treat Boxes (I used Martha Stewart Crafts Jack o’Lantern Decorative Boxes)
Spray Paint – silver for outside, turquoise for inside
Here’s what my little boxes looked like at first:
:: STEP ONE ::
Open boxes and lay them flat on a drop cloth. I painted the outside first, then painted the inside and did a quick touch up on the outsides… painting the inside first would keep you from the extra touch-ups 🙂 Remember to paint in LIGHT LAYERS – especially on the insides to avoid puddling.
Here are the outsides of my pumpkin boxes painted silver. I painted them silver because I knew that the glitter wouldn’t completely cover the sides and I didn’t want any of the kraft paper color to show through.
:: STEP TWO ::
Once the paint is dry (which takes approximately 20 minutes) very lightly spray the outsides of the boxes with spray adhesive then sprinkle immediately with glitter. Allow these to sit for about 5 minutes then lightly tap to remove excess glitter. (Tap these over a tray or plate so you can save your excess glitter for a future project!)
Now you’re ready to fill with your favorite treat and give (or keep!) your glittered jack-o-lanterns!
