Today I am excited to introduce you to a great new painting aid called My Paint Saint. If you’ve read my blog for a while you probably know that I’m a big believer in the power of paint – it can literally transform your home. No matter if you are painting a brick fireplace, or even a dining room table, paint can make things pop. But, the down side to all the painting that I do around here is that I end up with lots of half open cans of paint which can be tricky to store. I don’t know about you, but getting that air-tight seal after I’ve pried open a can of paint rarely happens again for me. And since we are a busy household, paint projects can often benefit from touch ups – causing me to pry open a can again and again, further compromising the quality of the paint inside. Not to mention the fact that I am always in a hurry and cleaning paint brushes properly is a job that just can’t be rushed… so you can imagine my intrigue when I heard about a product that promises to help me with these critical issues.
Say hello to My Paint Saint (affiliate link). It is a heavy duty plastic can that keeps your paint fresh and doesn’t require you to clean your brush. Yep, you read that right. Here’s the deal: You open your brand new can of paint and paint your project – be it a wall, a piece of furniture, whatever. Then you pour your remaining paint into the My Paint Saint can. You place the brush/top combo onto the can and screw on the mason jar style ring to create that all important air tight seal. Then, when you need to do a quick touch up, you simply unscrew the cap, brush, brush, brush with the built in brush/top and then screw it all back together and your done. Touch ups no longer have to be dreaded, they can literally be done in mere minutes! Woo-hoo!
So here’s an example of a project that I’ve been kindof dreading, my beloved white dining room table top. After the move and the heavy duty wear and tear from my five year old who is constantly doing art on this table (and forgetting to use her art mat!) this poor thing was in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. Plus, the holidays are just around the corner and we’ve got a few fun parties in the works and I need my dining room table looking pretty, I knew I had to move this up on my to-do list.
So finally, today was the day, I pulled out my paint, and mentally prepared for a big production. I got out a sponge with a “scrubby” side and gave the table a good cleaning, removing the bits of playdough and (washable) marker that had been tattooed to the top. Then I opened the leftover paint I had stored in the My Paint Saint can, brushed over the top and sides of the table, and screwed the paint brush top back onto the can, and looked at the clock. It was less than 15 minutes, actually closer to 10. I was astonished! Really, could it have been that simple? Why had I dreaded this? And then I realized, I hadn’t had to hunt down a brush, I didn’t have to spend a bunch of time cleaning the brush, I just did the part I love the most, paint!
And here is the happy result! A fresh and clean tabletop that is ready for entertaining this holiday season and whatever else my five year old may want to throw at it, as long as it includes an art mat! But, now I won’t even fear that too much because I know that I can touch it up in minutes if needed! What a liberating thought!
I’m trying to keep the room fairly neutral so that I can have fun with season colors and decor in here.
It’s a very small dining room and you pass through it to get to the kitchen so we go through it several times a day. I know it will be a room I will continue to tinker with, but I’m finally at a place of feeling fairly peaceful with it.
I’m so pleased with how easily this project came together! Now my white tabletop can be a light, bright background for sweet and simple centerpieces like this casual collection of pumpkins and boxwood balls on turned wood pillar candlesticks.
Have you used My Paint Saint before? I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed my first encounter with it and I look forward to having it save me time, energy, and frustration again in the future!
