Did you know that today is National Pound Cake Day? I promise, I’m not making it up! If you saw my Paddy Cakes Petits Fours post or my Champagne and Raspberry Meringue Dessert post, you’ve probably guessed I rely on this dessert staple for quick and delicious treats and think it is quite proper and fitting for it to have its very own day to be celebrated! So, in honor of this holiday, I’m happy to share yet another fun idea for pound cake – Chocolate Fondue! Here’s what you need:
:: INGREDIENTS for CHOCOLATE FONDUE::
2 ounces dipping Chocolate
2 ounces semi-sweet Chocolate Chips (1/4 cup)
2 or 3 Tablespoons Whipping Cream
I use this recipe for both dark and white chocolate. When preparing this, I use two types of chocolate to enhance the flavor and consistency. Dipping chocolate has a nice sheen and is very stable helping the melted chocolate to remain smooth and melted for longer than chocolate chips alone. But often, I think the flavor is a bit lacking so I like to add in high quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
Place chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and melt in 30 second intervals in the microwave. Stir chocolate and continue heating as necessary until chocolate is smooth. Be careful not to overheat. Separately heat cream for about 20 seconds in the microwave so that it’s warm to the touch (but not boiling! that could curdle it.) Add warm cream into melted chocolate and stir until well-combined. Easy and delish!
Now that you have your creamy melted chocolate ready for dipping, we need something to dip into it – other than your spoon… Here’s what I used today:
:: ITEMS for DIPPING ::
1/4 Pound Cake, chopped into cubes
8 ounces whole Strawberries
Obviously this is just the tip of the iceberg of items you can dip – you could also try fresh Pineapple, Pretzels, Dried Fruits and more. Do you have a favorite item to dip?
I hope you enjoy a bite or two of a delicious Pound Cake today!
