A few weeks ago I discovered Wildflowers Photography blog and while the photographs are magnificent it was the content that captured my heart. You see, the blog is authored by Joy, a very talented photographer who until recently lived in Southern California. I say “lived” because not too long ago Joy, her husband Donny and their four children sold almost everything they owned and moved into the darling trailer you see in the photo above and have taken to the highway. They decided to simplify their lives and focus on what really, really matters. The amount of courage and determination that is required to take a leap of faith like this is what legends are made of and I have to admit, I am in awe. The beauty of their decision is that they have grown closer as a family and this adventure is surely one that they will never, ever forget.
While Joy doesn’t get to post too often, when she does, her posts are heartfelt and honest. She shares about the “highs & lows” of this decision. I think there are many of us who have “daydreamed” about setting off in a completely new direction in life but most of us have not been nearly as brave as Joy in actually doing it. I have taken many steps in my own life which is probably part of why this story resonates so much with me, but my changes have not been quite as dramatic as what she has done.
Per her blog, their current plan is to travel the remainder of this year and then settle in Texas. I have found her story to be incredibly encouraging and has certainly inspired me to look for ways to simplify my life more, even just in what “things” are taking up space in my home, not too mention what is taking up my time.
We only have one chance at this life, I certainly want to make the most of it and live a life that I can be proud of. That will mean different things for each of us but being “authentically ourselves” is relevant to all. I applaud Joy and Donny for the grand adventure they have embarked on. It is definitely not for everyone but it is clearly the right path for them at this time.
A short video has been made about their journey and you can view it on Yahoo here. There are so many amazing photos on her blog, you simply MUST click over to see them all. I have not gotten permission from Joy to post so I am hesitant to post too many photos here but trust, me, they are spectacular!
Oh, I’m sure you noticed the completely adorable painting on the trailer right? Well, that was done by beloved artist Katie Daisy. How cool would it be to have a trailer painted by Katie?! A-mazing!
I hope you have a wonderful day and are inspired by Joy as much as I am! I will see you tomorrow to announce the contest winner!
