I really enjoy featuring different ‘Blogs I Love’ and recently, when I created a Pinterest board to go along with this list, I was shocked to realize that I had yet to include the most influential blog that I read! Who is it you might ask? Well, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you may have seen this post or perhaps this post… and if so then you have no doubt of the powerhouse blogger to whom I am referring…. Miss Mustard Seed of course!
I first began reading Miss Mustard Seed’s blog a couple of year’s ago and was just completely in awe of her. Her home is so beautiful and her creativity truly seems boundless. But most of all I just loved her sweet, approachable writing style – while hers wasn’t the first blog I had ever read, it was the first one to really capture my heart. I believe this is partly to do with the fact that I love the scripture verse that her blog is named for but also because she is such an encourager! Every post boasts a “you can do it” message and honestly, who doesn’t want to hear that?! Match this with great style and an eye for detail and well, I’m hooked!
As I found myself looking to take my blog more seriously I naturally turned to her blog for inspiration and encouragement. I think it’s important to find good role models and honestly they can sometimes be hard to come by but here is an honest to goodness, genuinely awesome gal who daily opens her heart and her home to readers. In May of this year I had the chance to actually meet Marian and have had the privilege of meeting her several times since then. And I’m so pleased to say that she is just as genuine in “real” life as she is on the blog!
What is the magic, you may wonder? Well, I think it’s her positive attitude, her faith and her boldness to step out and use her God given gifts in even the simplest of ways. Like when she’s staging her home. For me, practically every photo is a scene I’m eager to step into. Even this simple stack of fabrics for example, doesn’t it make you just want to start crafting?!
Miss Mustard Seed is not only a blogger and photographer, she is also a stylist with HGTV.com and Cottages & Bungalows magazine. Oh and don’t let me forget, she’s also an AUTHOR! Yep, this year, she wrote an honest to goodness book titled Inspired You: Letting God Breathe New Life into Your Heart and Home. I love, love this book and highly recommend it! I own a copy for myself and have bought extras to give as gifts. It’s one part how-to, one part inspiration and all-parts a treasure that I turn to again and again!
She is also an entrepreneur who not only sells furniture that she refinishes at the ultra cool, vintage-hip Old Luckett’s Store but she also has her very own line of Milk Paint! Want to learn more? Visit her milk paint site which is filled with inspiring photos and tutorials to get you started on your next project! The chest below is finished in her Linen milk paint color. I adore all that delightful “chippy-ness”!
Her blog is filled with so much eye candy that it’s impossible for me to choose a favorite…. for example, she’s a wonderful artist and regularly features some very detailed chalk art signs like this:
… or this one, perfect for the holidays! I think the cow head is adorable! And you know I’m totally crushing on that boxwood wreath!
She actually shares a tutorial on HGTV.com if you are interested in making your own!
There is a sense of nostalgia in her home that especially resonates with me. This quilt for example feels like something my Granny might have had… isn’t is lovely? And how about the plank wall? She made that!! Cool, right?!
She has lots of advice to share if you are interested in starting your own furniture refinishing business, blogging, sewing, decorating and more. I hope that you will visit her today and, please, be sure to say hello for me!
Oh and before I go, I also hope you will pop over to Unskinny Boppy and say hello to me today as my home is being featured in her Holiday Home Tour!! I’m excited and nervous all at the same time!
By the way, we are in the final, final countdown with only 4 days ’til Christmas! I’m beginning to feel a little panicky as I realize I have a bunch of wrapping to do! Eeek! I am done with my shopping though, phew! I do have a trip to the post office I need to make so I’d better scoot and go get in that line!
