{be encouraged} Marjorie Rawlings ‘live happily’ quote

Posted on July 31,2012 by Jennifer

It is more important to live the life one wishes to live, Marjorie Rawlings quote

I first read this quote when one of my favorite authors, Jan Karon, quoted it in The Mitford Bedside Companion and was so struck by it. It is better to live a life you love and have less, than to live with all the comforts but not have peace. This has basically been my mantra this past year. I am intent on peace in my life – no matter what the cost! I am making sacrifices that I hope will one day pay off in a financial way but even in these moments today I’m enjoying the benefits of peace so if my hopes never turn into $$ I know it will be ok. Now that’s peace!

How about you? Does the pursuit of peace and happiness – even if you have less “creature comforts” – resonate with you? Please share in the comments section, I love to hear from you!

By the way, if you’re wondering, the butterflies seen here are part of the Martha Stewart Craft collection. I originally bought mine at Michael’s but I did find some Martha Stewart Crafts Golden Butterfly Stickers   on Amazon too.

A little while ago I stole some time to photograph the gorgeous clouds I was seeing out my window. And while doing it, I discovered a setting on my camera that will hopefully give me better pictures. As I came back inside I thought, “I feel so happy!” Seriously it is the littlest of things that warm the heart. My hope is that my heart will be more joyful. I think happiness springs from a joyful heart. And joy can exist despite the circumstances.
Thanks for sharing that thoughtful quote. I’m a fan of Jan Karon too! I read and re-read her books.
    Hope your day is Extraordinary!

I re-read the Mitford series probably once a year – I just love them! I had the privilege of being at Jan’s home last December for a story I styled for Victoria magazine (coming out this December!). She is just the most amazingly gracious and wonderful woman!

I’m so glad that you are gaining confidence with your camera!! I know I’ve been really enjoying growing my photography skills too!

I’m also really touched that you are being blessed by this quote – it really spoke to me and I hoped it would speak to others and it seems it does – yay! I hope your day is Extraordinary too!

I know, I totally want to live in the “little yellow house next door” or maybe “Fernbank”….but only if I had someone to help manage that property and Miss Sadie’s bank account to keep the roof fixed! Tee-hee!!

Oh, yes!!! Pursuing financial security just for the sake of financial security can be such a dull way to live. Far better to be true to who we are than to follow a path meant for someone else. It reminds me of this Henry David Thoreau quote, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.”
