On this eve of America’s Independence Day I thought a quote from the Star Spangled Banner would be appropriate. This phrase from our national anthem is so stirring especially when I pause to really reflect on what it is saying. It speaks of hope in the midst of war – rockets and bombs bursting are an entirely different scene from the beautiful fireworks that we will see tomorrow. I feel a deep debt of gratitude to the men and women who have given their “last full measure of devotion” {a phrase that I love from National Treasure: Book of Secrets} to give me this free land to call my home. I am absolutely, completely and without qualification grateful for the courage and yes, hope that won this honor that I so value today.
I still stand, put my hand over my heart and sing myself hoarse when the flag is raised and this music plays. I hope you will join me tomorrow in standing, singing, thanking and remembering those who have given us this reason to celebrate.
God Bless America!
Happy Celebrating!
Jennifer
