My darling daughter is about to turn one. Honestly, I don’t see how that’s possible since it feels like I just brought her home from the hospital a couple of months ago… has it really been a year? My calendar tells me it has. I feel very bittersweet about this first birthday. On the one hand, being the avid party planner that I am, I am anxious to roll up my sleeves and plan a fun-tastic birthday soiree for my little one. But on the other hand, this just shows me how fast time is really moving and I wish it would slow down. She really is going to be off to school before I know it! Oh well, for now I turn my mind’s eye to planning this party.

To begin, I thought long and hard about the theme… right from the start I knew I wanted it to be Beatrix Potter but to be fair to other themes I considered ducks, polka dots, princess and the like… I trolled through the online sites staring at photo after photo of baby parties. But as charming as each of these were none excited me like this so we’re officially having a Beatrix Potter themed First Birthday Party! (Silly, to talk about being “excited” by the theme, I know, but I’m a mommy and this stuff does excite me!)

I say Beatrix Potter and not Peter Rabbit because while I love Peter, I love Jemima Puddleduck and the other characters just as much!! By the way, my daughter loves these stories too – she has the little stuffed animals and totes them all around – just in case you’re wondering :-)

So, with theme in hand I’ve begun researching and planning. I’ll be sharing my findings along the way but today I’m showing you the “save the date” image I made which I sent to my family members so they’d know we’re having a party.

Question, do you send save the dates – virtual or real – when you’re having a party?

I worked long and hard on this little image {shown above} – and am pleased with the results. What do you think? Do you like it?

Now, I’m waiting on the paper to arrive for my invitations. I have an idea in my head of how I want them to look but sometimes that changes when I get the actual papers, ribbons and other pieces all together… funny how that works.

If you have any tips or advice about first birthdays I’d love to hear them!! So please leave a comment!

Wish me luck!

Jennifer
