On Friday I shared one of my favorite places in Ireland (read the Cliffs of Moher post here) and today I’m sharing my other favorite place – Adare Manor! This stunning castle-meets-country-house property is not only set in the most picture-perfect village (see village photos below) but it is brimming with beauty, detail and lots of history.
I love the red ivy on the building – it’s Virginia Creeper – being from Virginia this was a delightful bit of trivia to me 🙂 It is green in the Spring/Summer and turns red in the Fall. So pretty!
If you look carefully at this photo, on the top left and right you will notice words carved into the stone! It is actually a scripture: “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it” – Psalm 127:1. I love that rather than build a plain railing the owners/architects thought to carve this scripture instead!! Amazing and wonderful!
These are the formal gardens – I love the complex knot pattern in the boxwoods. In the distance you can see a bit of the world-famous golf course at Adare. I love to play golf and really wanted to play golf there – perhaps I’ll be able to on a future trip!
There were 2 different ruins that we came upon at Adare Manor. The first was this building. I’m not sure what it used to be but I loved the shape of the windows and doors!
Of course I couldn’t resist going inside!
It was all overgrown and crumbly inside – PERFECT!!
There are also ruins of an old castle on the grounds – so mysterious and lovely!
In the village of Adare there are a handful of thatched roof cottages which make this the ultimate idyllic village in my opinion! Inside, they are delightful shops and cafe’s.
Aren’t they just adorable?!! In the photo above they were working on re-thatching the center roof while we were there. It was a very interesting process to see done! I was fascinated with the intricate knot work you can see – somehow that keeps it all up there!
I hope you enjoyed this continued tour of the Emerald Isle! I have one more post to share with you and then a super fun and inspiring Fall Table later this week!
But first, I’ll see you tomorrow with an inspiring quote and the name of the winner of the stencil giveaway!
