Growing up I did a bit of cross-stitching but found I was more interested in sewing pillows, window treatments, etc… and didn’t continue decorative stitching until a few years ago when a good friend of mine invited me to a “stitching retreat.” It was here that I completely fell in love with the art of needlework. That weekend I discovered the joys of needlepoint (or stitching on painted canvases). If you aren’t familiar with needlepoint, I liken it to “painting with numbers” but with a needle and thread rather than a paint brush. You stitch in the colored areas that are on the canvas. It’s very soothing and relaxing to me! These Winnie the Pooh and Piglet canvases are my first completed needlepoint pieces and I plan to have them finished into stuffed animals. I wish I knew a bit more about how to finish them myself because I’d love to try it but, so far, I haven’t seen anything online about how to do that so I guess I’ll just have to save up and send them to a pro 🙂
I have really become enamored with samplers lately and found this lovely one by Homespun Elegance at my local cross-stitch store recently and couldn’t resist giving cross-stitching another try. And WOW am I loving it!! I’m already picking out more patterns I want to tackle after this one is complete and even dreaming up a few designs of my own!
This Parrot Floral II pattern by Marie Barber is definitely on my list of upcoming projects! It can be found in the July/August 2013 issue of Just CrossStitch magazine. I love all the bright pretty colors, and my favorite turquoise is in there too!!
I’m thinking some ornaments could be fun little projects also! Do you enjoy doing any needlework? Have any resources to recommend? I’d love to know!
