This past weekend my best friend Dara and I made our annual pilgrimage to the Old Lucketts Store for their Holiday Open House weekend. I will share more photos from the shopping and design house later this week but today I’m so excited to share the absolute highlight of the day – meeting up with Miss Mustard Seed and getting an autographed copy of her brand-new book Inspired You: Letting God Breathe New Life Into Your Heart and Home. I was extremely fortunate to buy the last copy she had with her – yep, she sold out in a day and a half… WOW! Is she a super-star or what?!
Of course I came right home and began reading and seriously, I haven’t been able to put this book down! In true Miss Mustard Seed style there are lots of practical projects – DIY framed chalkboards, a tufted headboard, faux grain sack pillows, how to make an ottoman and so much more. Of course no Miss Mustard Seed book would be complete without great tips on how to refinish furniture so yes, they’re in there too plus tips for going out and finding pieces with potential so you can roll your sleeves up and jump right in! But probably most special of all is how Marian shares her heart – her encouragement about how a home doesn’t have to be perfect to be your haven. It is so… freeing! Her love for helping and encouraging readers leaps off every page and you can’t help but be uplifted. I’ve already gone online to Amazon and ordered 2 more copies of the book to give as Christmas gifts and honestly… I may need to order more!
It was delightful to be in her booth in Lucketts and while you could see that it had been hit pretty hard by the shoppers the day before (see those practically bare shelves in the cabinet – top right) there were still lots of treasures to be found. Seeing my note cards in her booth was thrilling! (bottom right) There they were sitting right alongside her soon-to-be world famous Milk Paint! So cool! This chippy chest of drawers (bottom left) was positively dreamy as were all the goodies loaded on top! I meant to pick up one of the grain sack lavender sachets (top left) but got a little too excited/overwhelmed and forgot to snag one – whoops! I did manage to get some of the beloved German glass glitter and an adorable pair of mini binoculars among my MMS treasures. My friend got some milk paint which we are very excited to begin playing with!!
Basically, it was a cold but perfect day! Hanging out with my best friend Dara, visiting with Miss Mustard Seed and holiday shopping – it doesn’t get much better than this!
Tomorrow I’ll be back with an inspirational quote and on Wednesday we’ll return to Lucketts with photos of some of the great finds in the store, the oh-so-inspiring Design House and I’ll also share a couple of other shops that we popped into during our marathon day!
Hope to see you then!
