You may be wondering: “What is Jennifer up to today?” Generally I blog about home & garden. My elevator pitch for this corner of the internet is that I share food, decor & inspiration for celebrating everyday life. I show easy ways to bring beauty into your life with ideas, tips, short cuts, whatever it takes to help you live with joy, and save some time and money in the process. Today I wanted to invite you behind the scenes and share a little bit about my journey. Especially the 6 Blogging Mistakes I’ve made (and how you can avoid them)!
One of the biggest mistakes that I have made, and the one I regret the most, is all of the wasted time I’ve spent listening to self-doubt AND then believing it! I have squandered countless hours and days on the aimless merry-go-round of questioning my ideas and creativity, and have been left wondering at times, is this even worth it? This is folly! The real time wasting comes from me giving these negative ideas more than a moment’s consideration. These thoughts are meant only to discourage and destroy, not to edify and build up. Why do I even give them an inch of space in my head?
This past January is a prime example of what I mean. I’m in the midst of renovating my kitchen and things are pretty discombobulated around here. I’ve started with the floors, so everything in the kitchen and dining room had to be moved to the living room. And then I began the work of installing the floors. It was challenging and exhausting, to say the least, and with the added chaos due to the rooms being overstuffed for many days, I easily fell into the trap of negative thinking. I missed some days blogging because I didn’t have the time or energy required to share anything that felt “valuable”. Then my blog went down due to server maintenance with my host and I sank I little bit deeper into the mind pit. One day right after my prayer time, I felt prompted to check my blog stats (something I hadn’t done recently due to all the other things going on). I was shocked to see that not only was the blog surviving, but it was thriving! This past January was not only my best January ever for page views, it was also my 3rd best month of all time for page views – with this past November being #1, and this past December being #2! I am in the midst of a season of growth and blessing, and I was totally missing it due to lies and self-doubt that were just roaming freely around my mind! I am now taking back the reigns and examining the thoughts that I’m letting in. Keeping the ones that belong, and dismissing the others. I encourage you to join me in this exercise. It’s challenging, but vital!
Blogging Mistake #2 is: Not Posting Consistently, and for me is a direct result of mistake #1. When you fall into the well of self-doubt, it can be very hard to rally your spirits to the place where you feel that you have something that is of value or “good enough” to share. This is such a LIE, and I can tell you that one of the best ways to beat this is to share content ANYWAY. The truth is that in many blogging cases, something really is better than nothing. Even if you’re not feeling creative, inspired, or are just overwhelmed with negative emotions, I encourage you to fight past this and POST ANYWAY. Create a roundup of inspiring quotes, popular posts from past years that fit the season, or create lists of places you’d like to visit, books you want to read, flowers you want to plant, recipes you want to make… Fight past the blockade and it will begin to lose its hold on you.
As I continued to focus on getting past the emotional hurdles, I quickly found that I had another sizeable problem. You see, I knew where I wanted to go with this blog, but I didn’t have a road map. If you’ve ever traveled to a new place, then you know how important proper directions can be. Not only can they save you time and energy but in some cases, some destinations just can’t be found without the right directions. And this is the exact situation I found myself in. I’ve been blogging since 2008 – yep, that’s eight, going into nine years, and yet, I was still making some wrong turns that were leading me back to square one. Sure, I’d learned a few things here and there… I’d picked up some tips and advice from an article or a webinar, or even attended a conference or two… and almost like throwing spaghetti against a wall to see if it sticks, I would apply an idea and always end up frustrated that I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. I was watching others soar, while I continued to sit stalled out on the runway. Filled with frustration, shame, and confusion, the emotional spiral would begin and I’d end up right back at mistake #1…. And then I began to pray with my entire being, literally begging God to help me. I had reached a place where I knew something had to change. I couldn’t keep up this pace of working two full-time jobs while being a single mother plus extras like church activities, being a girl scout leader, and more… it’s was and is too much. Something had to give.
You know that saying “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” That is precisely what happened for me. As I began to pray, and at the same time, STOPPED making excuses for my failure and began to “do the work”, I began to find answers and hope, and the tide began to turn! The numbers are going up, up, and up, and it’s only gonna get better. How do I know? Because I finally found the road map! (affiliate links below)
I began digging through the internet, looking for REAL answers. And boy, did that require a lot of effort…. there is so much information out there, and for me, a lot of it, was not helpful! I’d find bits and pieces of ideas, but nothing solid, nothing that would lead me from start to finish. From point A to point Z… much less anything that guaranteed results. Until I found Ruth of Elite Blog Academy. I loved her concept: Blogging Made Simple- Turning Your Passion Into Profits. Honestly, I almost scoffed at the idea of this. Blogging Made Simple? Blogging can be confusing, overwhelming, and challenging – and yet, it is my passion. It is a vehicle that allows me to create and share in ways that I never dreamed were possible. I wanted the cycle of frustration to end and here was a woman sharing from her heart that my dream was possible.
Once I started reading the testimonials, the stories of people like me who had once been merely surviving but were now thriving, something clicked inside and I knew I had to sign up.
In the few short months that I’ve been applying the principals that Ruth teaches through her program, I’ve been honestly astounded by the REAL results that are happening for me like those she mentions in the video on this page!! Finally, I found someone who could give me real directions, and if I was willing to put in the work, I would begin to get REAL RESULTS. Here is a systematic approach. No more guessing, no more trying a little of this, a little of that, and ending up more confused than ever. Here is a tried and true recipe for blogging success. I feel so lucky! Now, don’t get me wrong. This is not a quick, short cut plan. It takes work. But everything of quality does. Hard work doesn’t scare me, and I hope you won’t let it scare you either.
Since 2014, Elite Blog Academy has been field-tested by bloggers just like me. The program is designed to get results, and it does.
In fact, it even comes with a 100% money-back guarantee, which means you’ve literally got nothing to lose.
But don’t wait like I originally did!
Enrollment for Elite Blog Academy only opens ONCE a year, for five days only. If you want in, you’ll have to act fast!
This year, the doors officially open on February 27th, but EBA founder Ruth Soukup is offering a free training series the week before hand called Blogging Made Simple that I highly recommend!

There’s more to my story and I’ll be sharing it soon. But in the meantime, if you have a blog that you want to see improve, or if you’ve been thinking blogging might be for you but you weren’t sure how to get started then, I hope you will click the image above and watch the videos, and then join me in the classroom – and get ready for a grand adventure, where we turn our passions into profits!
